Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has sensationally left Stamford Bridge, according to BBC Radio 5live football correspondent Jonathan Legard.

The news comes just 24 hours after the disappointing Champions League draw against Rosenborg.

Legard understands that Mourinho has texted senior players, including skipper John Terry, with the news of his departure from Stamford Bridge.

There has been no official word so far from the Premiership club.

More to follow.

Knew this will be his last year in Chelsea. They didn't know how good they had it with him. The way there upper management is makes it hard for even the best coaches to not just burn out there. No one at Man U, Liverpool, and Arsenal questions Sir Alex, Rafa, and Wenger. At Chelsea they are too many middle men trying to give there input. Welcome back to Portugal.

I'd like to see him at a smaller club in the league. Alot more fun that way, as he could cause some big upsets.

Just heard it myself. UNBELIEVABLE!

Speculation on BBC 5 Live is that it's all over the Andreyi Shevchenko deal and his performance in Chelsea's Champions League match.

Sheva's mistakes were Mourinho's focus yesterday and Abramovich must have thrown the goal Sheva scored in his face.

Chelsea can now go back to being a nothing club.

Will Mourinho land at TOTTENHAM? Likely, in my opinion.

He takes over Portugal after Euro 2008. Unless this thing with Cheslea gets sorted out he'll take a break from the B.S until Portugal comes calling. I don't see him at this point going to another EPL club. Too bad, love him or hate him he was good for the game.

International football has never been Mourinho's strong point.

He is a club manager and I really think he will stay in England. Most likely SPURS.

All heresay at this point with us throwing things against the wall and he is never coached at the International level so who knows if its his strong suit or not. He has mentioned several times that coaching Portugal was his dream and now all he has to do is wait 10 months. He'll head back to Lisbon relax for awhile and then decide what he wants to do.

I can't think of any big clubs that would look to recruit a new manager. Maybe Inter Milan as they've had a pretty troubled time with Mancini as coach. But, they can't sack him yet as he won them the title last season.

Spurs might be an idea.

Who is gonna take over at Chelsea? Some old rumours mentioned Mark Hughes...

I don't know about all these middlemen you speak about, there's only one man calling the shots there.

Bottom line is he wants a more entertaining team.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has sensationally left the club, it is understood.

The Portuguese coach departed Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night after texting five senior players to say he was leaving.

Mourinho caught Chelsea's hierarchy by surprise after the premiere of the club's documentary 'Blue Revolution' by demanding talks at Stamford Bridge over his future.

Those talks continued late into last night, but his players were left in no doubt that the 1-1 draw against Rosenborg in the Champions League on Tuesday night was his last match in charge.

Mourinho is understood to have sent text messages to five players at 6pm on Wednesday night and by midnight the entire first-team squad were aware that he had left.

Mourinho led the club to two Barclays Premier League titles after joining the club in June 2004 but their disastrous start to the new season had taken its toll on him.

The Chelsea manager is set to report to the training ground at Cobham today to say goodbye to the players who won every domestic trophy during his time in England.

Juande Ramos, touted as a possible successor to Martin Jol at Tottenham, is among the coaches linked with his job.

Ramos watched his side lose 3-0 to Arsenal in the Champions League last night but may be tempted by an offer from the Blues.

Mourinho still had three years left on a contract, worth a staggering £6.5m a year, but the club's billionaire owner Roman Abramovich is prepared pay a huge slice of that in order to end their relationship.

At the time he signed the deal, Mourinho said: "My heart is with Chelsea and the fantastic group of players that I have but the vision of the owner and the board for the future of Chelsea is also one I want to be a part of.

"I cannot imagine another situation or another club where I could be happier. I am totally behind this project."

But Chelsea's board have become increasingly unhappy after the team's poor start to the season.

Chelsea are currently fifth in the Premier League, two points behind leaders Arsenal after six games, and their 1-1 draw with Rosenborg in their opening Champions League game on Tuesday night did not help his cause.

Mourinho's departure comes just days before they face Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Assistant Steve Clarke or director of football Avram Grant are set to take charge of team affairs on Sunday.

There is a board of directors, Peter Kenyon, they added Portsmouth number 2 Abraham Grant from Portsmouth last year. Those middle men which are puppets to the guy calling the shots. Who does Sir Alex answer too. Rafa has Hicks and Gillette eating out of the palm of his hands still. At Cheslea that front office is so bloating it prevents anyone from installing there own team.

Bottom line when his team is entertaining and playing in the UEFA Cup and his team starts bleeding even more money there will be alot of second guessing.

Apparently the board of directors weren't even aware Roman had let go of Mourinho.
The news of Mourinho’s departure appears to have taken many of Chelsea’s senior executives by surprise. Peter Kenyon, the chief executive, Bruce Buck, the chairman, and Abramovich’s key aide, Eugene Tenenbaum, were called to an emergency meeting at Stamford Bridge last night to discuss the crisis. That meeting broke up at 1.20 this morning and Tenenbaum left without making any comment.

Roman doesn't care for Mourinho, it was only a matter of time.

I didn't recall saying the middle men where the ones that axed Jose. My point is the club is top heavy with too many people that Abramovich let's in his ear from Kenyon, Buck, Grant and even Hiddink.

At the end of the day that undermines the coach. Add to that the owner that treats the club like a toy getting restless from not winning the CL's and the signs are there that Cheslea will turn into the next Real Madrid with coaches burning out every year or two with the way management is structured.

I agree the situation at Chelsea is far from ideal.

And I agree that at the end of the day it was Abramovich who got tired of Mourinho. Good talking about the beautiful game with you again. GL this weekend.

Based on the fact that Abramovich brought Grant and by that step
implied to Mourinho some hint already before the season started ,it seems Abramovich will push to appoint Grant now based on the friendly relationships these two have one with the other.hope this won't be the case though, grant good with tactics and under his coaching Israel almost made it to the world cup,but his style is not attractive and won't be good
in long run for Chelsea either.

I could see them going after Ramos and Ramos choosing Chelsea over Tott.

wasn't it reported somewhere that Jol has 4 games to turn things around or he is gone?
